Russia, late 1890’s. A house near a lake, in a lost countryside. Treplev, a young man, lives alone with his uncle. To fight his loneliness, Treplev writes plays, willing to explore new artistic forms. In a house located on the opposite side of the lake lives Nina, his muse and his love. He proceeds to write a monologue detailing his infatuation with Nina and attempts to perform it in front of his neighbours, mother… and Nina’s lover. La Mouette explores the links between art and life, talent and love.
