The performance digs under the skin of anti-heroine Jess, imprisoned for smuggling drugs on her lover’s behalf. Blurring the boundaries of acted scene, poetry and live electronic music, HATCH flows through Jess’s feelings of abandonment from her partner on the outside, explosive spoken word poetry and sensual moments of magical realism; intertwined in a collection of original songs and live electronic music.
Carton, a Resident Artist at The Roundhouse, is a singer, songwriter, music producer and theatre maker. HATCH is a developing political project and stems from Carton’s in-depth research and conversations exploring the current failings of the women’s prison system. The Camden People’s Theatre production of HATCH will be fundraising for Safe Ground, an organisation committed to improving access to educational activities in prisons and creating alternatives to traditional punishment and exclusion.
