Nancy, Ivy and Deja face the trials and tribulations that come with having a child. Can they learn from their own mothers’ mistakes? Over the course of a New Year’s Eve, three women confront the idea of Motherhood and how their relationship with their Mother has defined most of their lives. Girlhood follows Nancy, during a chance encounter with her brother’s boss as she grapples with her idea of the perfect future. We follow Ivy as she sits on the toilet, pregnancy test in hand, unsure of what to do next. And after an off-hand comment from her boyfriend, Deja is left wondering if the issue of children will end her relationship. They explore what is means to be a mother, what our mothers teach us and, without meaning to, what our mothers teach us not to be.
