In 1964, the city of Anchorage, Alaska, experienced the largest earthquake in US history. A part-time radio reporter, her teenage intern, a general on leave, a local hobbyist, and a whole host of other characters find themselves at the centre of a remarkable relief effort. Live on air, Genie Chance must take unimaginable risks to save her community – and her family – from chaos.

Based on the incredible true story of the Great Alaskan Earthquake, Down to Chance is a heartwarming portrait of a real life hero and her community in crisis, with the whole world listening in.

Having sold out the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2025, this ‘deftly staged thriller’ (The Stage) lands in London for three weeks only.

Pleasance’s Associate Artists and ‘a terrifically exciting company’ (The Stage), Maybe You Like It present high energy, story driven stage shows that are fast, funny, fluid and filmic. Their madcap new show promises frenetic action, frantic multi-roling, and immersive live sound in this ‘love letter to the golden age of radio’ (The Scotsman).

22nd April – 9th May, tickets available from £10.

Supported by Theatre Royal Plymouth and The Pleasance for The Edinburgh National Partnerships Programme. Also supported by the Cockayne Foundation.
