About This Show

Birmingham Royal Ballet’s triple bill, Lazuli Sky is Sadler’s Wells’ first socially-distanced public performance. Will Tuckett’s hopeful and regenerative new piece for 12 dancers, is inspired by the birdsong and wind-shaped skies experienced during lockdown, once day to day noise disappeared. Lazuli Sky uses design and projection to create a socially distanced stage architecture, set to Shaker Loops by John Adams and played by a live string septet. Our Waltzes, performed by ten dancers is a Latin infused collection of neo-classical work celebrating love and passion by choreographer Vicente Nebrada is set to a score by 19th and 20th century Venezuelan composers. Wagner’s powerful music from Tristan und Isolde inspires emotive and dextrous dance in choreographer Valery Panov’s visceral Liebestod a powerful, athletic solo for the company’s male principals. Accompanied by live music from the Royal Ballet Sinfonia and one hour approximate running time. Lazuli Sky is the first one-act ballet commissioned and presented by Carlos Acosta as Director of Birmingham Royal Ballet.
