Tchaikovsky’s stormy symphony overflows with tempestuous outbursts and achingly beautiful melodies, while Bizet’s orchestral suite captures the passion and intensity of his remarkable opera. Public and private city life can be heard in Elgar’s concert overture, from military bands and street sellers’ cries to romance in secluded squares.
