At the 2008 Fringe, Dougal Irvine made his debut as a musical theatre writer with the hit coming-of-age show Departure Lounge. That show is being revived next month at the new Waterloo East Theatre (See News, 18 Aug 2010). Now Irvine is onto the difficult second musical and with the help of students at the Royal Academy of Music and Drama (RSAMD), In Touch is premiering at the 2010 Festival in Edinburgh.

Astonishingly for a former musical theatre actor, Irvine saw his first show in his twenties. This – he is convinced – has helped his writing, drawing on wider cultural and artistic experiences than your average theatre obsessive.

Dougal Irvine‘s In Touch is running at the Pleasance Dome, 5-29 August at 12.10
