The graphic novel is based on George Maguire’s hit work
Exclusive: The first part of Gregory Maguire’s Wicked will be released as a graphic novel this autumn.
Published by Titan Comics, Wicked Part 1 has been adapted by artist Scott Hampton and will be available in the UK from 21 October 2025.
Based on Maguire’s 1995 novel that inspired the long-running stage musical, the graphic novel tells the story of Elphaba, a young woman born with green skin who struggles to be accepted in the land of Oz. Determined to stand up for what she believes is right, she challenges the rule of the Wizard and finds herself labelled a witch and driven into exile.
Fans of the stage show (and subsequent film) take note – Maguire’s tale certainly has some differences with what ended up in the musical adaptation.
The second volume is due for release in March 2026. The new edition arrives shortly before the cinema release of Wicked Part 2, which continues the story of Elphaba and Glinda for a new generation of audiences.
Pre-orders are available through Forbidden Planet and Waterstones.
