What's in my dressing room? – Oliver Tompsett

Oliver is currently starring as Sky Masterson in Guys and Dolls at the Phoenix Theatre. His previous acting credits include We Will Rock You (Dominion Theatre), Drew Boley in the original London cast of Rock of Ages (Shaftesbury Theatre) and Fiyero in Wicked (Apollo Victoria Theatre).

We caught up with him to find out which four items he couldn't live without.

OT: Hi, it's me! Obviously the biggest thing in my dressing room is me, so hi.

OT: In the interval or in downtime I will occasionally wind down with a game of chairs. This was introduced to me at Rock of Ages, Nathan Amzi and I would play nearly every interval. I think it's important to stop for a second when working hard on a show. We used to play this with my dresser Marrianne who ended up working on Guys and Dolls as well and kindly bought me Chairs as an opening night present. Trust me you don't know what you're missing.

OT: The support I have received from passionate theatre fans is incredible. Whether they are a fan of my work in general or of the show that I happen to be in at that moment, theatre fans are mostly positive, happy, friendly people who love to spread their passion. I sadly do not have the time, money or ego to print out photos of myself to send out signed photos but if someone sends me some pics as this gentleman has I will gladly sign and return in posted envelope. Couple of pictures from my past… a very distant younger past 🙂

OT: I have been lucky in my career and have had more success as an actor than I could have dreamed of but the things that keep me going and what I take the most pride in is the success that I have found in my personal life. I have the best friends you could wish for and I have the best family. My wife Michelle and my son George are the ones that keep my feet on the ground, my ambition in the sky and allow me to share my heart with them and my career. Oh yeah, and some giant lucky dice.

OT: These short stories are an interesting read to help understand what kind of world they were originally trying to create for Guys and Dolls. This current production is as close as any I have ever seen and as I hear from all the Guys and Dolls purists, many agree! I can't guarantee that I will let you see my dressing room in person as it is usually quite an untidy place but that shouldn't stop you from coming down to see Guys and Dolls at the Phoenix Theatre… I guarantee you will love it.
