War Horse will return to The Lowry from Wednesday 23 July to Saturday 20 September 2014, with tickets going on sale today from at 10am.

War Horse author Michael Morpurgo was in the North West today with Joey, the life-size puppet horse and star of the show, to announce the forthcoming return of the National Theatre's multi-award-winning production to the North West next summer.

The highly anticipated North West première of War Horse at The Lowry (Wed 20 November 2013 – Sat 14 January 2014) has become the best-selling show in the venue's 13 year history, with 80,000 tickets already sold.

The Lowry's Marketing Director, Jon Gilchrist said:

"By putting an extra 100,000 tickets on sale for summer 2014, we can ensure that even more people from across the North West will get the chance to see this landmark theatre event."

War Horse has now been seen by over 4 million people world-wide, including some famous faces such as Madonna, Will Smith and Her Majesty The Queen.

Set at the outbreak of World War One, War Horse tells the story of Albert and his beloved horse Joey.

This second run of War Horse coincides with a number of key dates in the commemoration of the First World War centenary year, the first being 28 July 2014, which marks exactly 100 years since the outbreak of the First World War in 1914.

The 34 strong cast includes 11 actors from the North West. Oldham-born Karen Henthorn, who played Teresa Bryant in Coronation Street, takes the role of Rose. Well-loved local actor David Fleeshman from Cheshire plays Arthur and Emily Aston, sister of Sam Aston who plays Chesney in Coronation Street, from Bacup in Lancashire, takes the role of Paulette.
