In our new feature, we hunt out the top videos from theatreland
From brand new funnies to age-old classics, every week we'll be rounding up our favourite videos from the world of theatre. Watched a video that you think should feature? Let us know on editorial@whatsonstage.com.
Youtuber Malinda Kathleen Reese has built up an army of over half a million subscribers with her series which takes songs and puts them through Google Translate and back again. This take on "I Dreamed a Dream" from Les Mis – translated into the 21 languages it's been performed in – is inspired. Our favourite new lyric sees "when their voices were soft" become "have a dudu".
Just when you think you've seen all the Hamilton tribute videos you can stomach, along comes one that takes you by surprise. This week it's an American figure skater dancing to "Burn". Just beautiful.
Dame Judi Dench's foray into the world of rap with grime artist Lethal Bizzle had us scouring the web for more videos of our favourite Judi (sorry Ms Finnigan). This, from WhatsOnStage Award-winner James Corden's American chat show, had us howling. Incidentally, we can only manage six times, how about you?
Over a year since Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel sent the interbubbles into meltdown with this cover of "For Good", Wicked's Out of Oz series is back! This time country music star Jennifer Nettles lays down a cover of "No Good Deed" which sounds more Once than Wicked, but we love it.
We know life as a performer isn't easygoing, but it wasn't until we were invited to film at the open auditions for 42nd Street that we realised quite how competitive the industry is. Over 2000 Young and Healthy Dames [and guys] turned up at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane to audition for the show's next cast change and by About a Quarter to Nine they were circling the whole building.
