Here’s the iconic film, back in cinemas
Tickets are now on sale for special 60th anniversary screenings of The Sound of Music, newly restored and remastered in 4K.
Trafalgar Releasing will present the Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II musical in over 950 cinemas across more than 28 countries from 20 September for a limited run.
The film, which won five Academy Awards, features songs including “Edelweiss”, “My Favorite Things”, “Climb Ev’ry Mountain”, “Do-Re-Mi” and the title track.
Directed by Robert Wise and starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer, the film’s initial US release lasted four-and-a-half years, and from 1966 to 1972, Variety listed it as the “All-Time Box Office Champion.”
Kymberli Frueh, EVP Programming and Content Acquisitions at Trafalgar Releasing, described the release as an opportunity for audiences to experience the film in a newly remastered format, adding: “This stunning remaster honours the film’s timeless legacy and lifelong fans while inspiring new generations to fall in love with its music, message, and magic on the big screen.”
