Jez Butterworth's The Ferryman will close in the West End in May, with the production transferring to Broadway to open in October.

Directed by Sam Mendes, the show opened at London's Royal Court in May 2017, receiving rave reviews (including 24 five-star reviews) with WhatsOnStage critic Sarah Crompton describing the piece as "a triumphant, bold piece of theatre, an old-fashioned play full of life and heart and passion." The original production cast included Paddy Considine and Laura Donnelly.

The show will conclude on 19 May with its current cast, including Rosalie Craig (As You Like It, The Threepenny Opera, The Light Princess and London Road, National Theatre) in the role of Caitlin Carney, Owen McDonnell (Single-Handed) playing Quinn Carney and Justin Edwards (The Thick of It and The Death Of Stalin) as Tom Kettle.

The production will transfer to Broadway at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre (242 W 45th St, New York) opening in October 2018.

Tickets for the Broadway production of The Ferryman, also directed by Sam Mendes, will go on sale on Monday 5 March, with the cast and full schedule to be announced.

The Ferryman runs at the Gielgud Theatre until 19 May.
