A new production of The Addams Family has been announced, and will tour the UK in 2017.

With a book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, the creators of Tony and Olivier Award-winning musical Jersey Boys, the musical comedy will be based on the characters created by cartoonist Charles Addams.

Directed by Matthew White (The Producers), the story will follow Wednesday Addams, who's now all grown up and has fallen for a smart man from a respectable family. The Addams family host a dinner for her "normal" boyfriend and his parents, which proves to change everything. It has music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa (Big Fish).

The original Broadway production starred Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuwirth and ran for two years at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, before touring the US.

Addams' original stories were adapted into two Hollywood films in the '90s, The Addams Family and its sequel The Addams Family Values, which starred Anjelica Huston, Raúl Juliá and Christina Ricci.

The production will visit Edinburgh, Northampton, Canterbury, Southend, Birmingham, Truro, Nottingham, Bradford, Southampton, Cardiff, Dublin and Salford with more dates to be announced.

The Addams Family will open at the Festival Theatre, Edinburgh on 20 April 2017 before touring the UK.
