Sunset Boulevard has won the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical.
The reimagined revival of the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical is directed by Jamie Lloyd and transferred from the West End. The original production won the Tony for Best Musical in 1995.
The revival, which stars Nicole Scherzinger as Norma Desmond, was nominated for a total of seven Tony Awards, the most of any Broadway revival this season. Sunset Boulevard had one other Broadway revival in 2017 with original star Glenn Close.
The production has choreography by Fabian Aloise and is designed by Soutra Gilmour (sets and costumes), Jack Knowles (lighting design), Adam Fisher (sound design), and Nathan Amzi and Joe Ransom (video design and cinematography). Alan Williams is the music supervisor and musical director. Sunset Boulevard is based on the film by Billy Wilder.
Scherzinger stars as Norma Desmond opposite Tom Francis as Joe Gillis, David Thaxton as Max, and Grace Hodgett Young as Betty.
Knowles also picked up the Tony Award for Best Lighting Design of a Musical for his work on the show.
The show won seven WhatsOnStage Awards, including Best Performer in a Musical for Scherzinger. Mandy Gonzalez, who plays the role of Norma Desmond on Tuesday evenings, will play her final performance on 1 July.
Sunset Boulevard. is running at the St James Theatre until 13 July.
