Steven Houghton joins Danielle Hope in Sound of Music tour

”Coronation Street” star Houghton is a previous Olivier Award nominee

Full casting has been announced for the 2015 UK tour of Rodgers and Hammerstein classic The Sound of Music, starring Danielle Hope as Maria.

Hope, who rose to fame after winning the BBC's Over the Rainbow casting show, will be joined by Coronation Street star and previous Olivier Award nominee Steven Houghton (pictured) as Captain von Trapp.

Houghton's previous theatre credits include Spend Spend Spend, Blood Brothers, White Christmas, Martin Guerre and Grease.

Also in the cast are Jan Hartley (The Phantom of the Opera) and Sarah Soetaert (Chicago) who will play the Mother Abbess and Baroness Elsa Schrader, respectively, with Howard Samuels as Max, Grace Chapman as Liesl, Luke George as Rolf, Kate Milner Evans as Frau Schmidt and Martin Dickinson as Admiral Von Schreiber.

Produced by Bill Kenwright and directed by Martin Connor, with choreography by Bill Deamer and musical direction by David Steadman, the production coincides with the 50th anniversary of the iconic film version starring Julie Andrews.
