Nicholas Sparks’ romantic novel The Notebook looks set to be the next big page-to-screen-to-stage musical to hit Broadway.

Multi-talented Bethany Joy Galeotti (described on Wikipedia as a “singer-songwriter, musician, director and actress”), of TV’s One Tree Hill fame, is apparently working on the project with music producer Ron Aniello, with an eye on taking it to Broadway before the end of 2010.

The project has been hotly contested, with Ken Davenport also originally interested in getting rights for the show. And actress Rachel McAdams, who starred in the 2004 big screen version, recently admitted to celebrity website Access Hollywood that she is “stunned” and “speechless” at the idea of a musical makeover (thus ending rumours that she herself could be set to reprise her role as Allie).
