Gerard Alessandrini’s parody of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s ”Hamilton” opens at the Menier Chocolate Factory next week
We're obviously huge fans of Lin-Manuel Miranda's Hamilton here at WOS HQ, so an invite into rehearsals for the UK premiere of Gerard Alessandrini's parody Spamilton was impossible to turn down.
Below is a sneak peek at "Look Around (The Schuyler Puppets)", one of the brilliantly funny songs from the show, which opens at the Menier Chocolate Factory next week.
The piece premiered in New York in 2016 and features other numbers including "The Film When It Happens" and "Aaron Burr, Sir, Nervous-er". It also parodies musicals including Sweeney Todd, Gypsy and The Book of Mormon.
Directed by Alessandrini – best known for Forbidden Broadway, which also ran at the Menier – the cast features Marc Akinfolarin, Jason Denton, Eddie Elliott, Liam Tamne and Julie Yammanee, with special guests Sophie-Louise Dann and Damian Humbley.
The production has choreography by Gerry McIntyre, design by Morgan Large, costume by Dustin Cross, lighting by Tim Lutkin, sound by Gregory Clarke and Jonathan Everett, musical arrangements by Fred Barton and musical direction by Simon Beck.
