Richard Findlay, former chair of the National Theatre of Scotland, has been appointed to lead funding body Creative Scotland.

Findlay, who was chair of NTS from its conception until 2013, will succeed Sir Sandy Crombie in the role.

Scottish culture secretary Fiona Hyslop said: "Richard's experience in the sector, in the media, screen and theatre, are unparalleled and he has a real understanding of the issues facing our arts organisations today. Richard will lead Creative Scotland from strength to strength, supporting and challenging the organisation as it delivers on its ambitious ten-year plan."

Findlay responded: "I am absolutely delighted to be appointed as Chair of Creative Scotland. Having watched the achievements of the organisation since its inception, as well as the challenges it has faced, I feel I am joining at an exciting and pivotal time."

Creative Scotland distributes funding from the Scottish Government and The National Lottery in support of the arts, screen and creative industries across all parts of Scotland.

Findlay will work on a part-time basis, paid £250 per day for four days per month. He will be chair for four years until December 2018.
