Tim Minchin and the cast of Groundhog Day celebrated the opening night of Danny Rubin and Minchin's new musical at the Old Vic. The show opened to excellent reviews, including a five star rave from WhatsOnStage.

The show is Minchin's second foray into musical theatre following his massive hit Matilda, which was also directed by Old Vic boss Matthew Warchus.

Groundhog Day is the adaptation of the 1993 film which starred Bill Murray as weatherman Phil Connors. Connors visits Punxsutawney on the day a groundhog predicts how soon spring will come. He gets stuck in the same day which plays over and over again.

Broadway star Andy Karl plays Phil Connors and Carlyss Peer plays his love interest Rita.

Groundhog Day runs at the Old Vic until 17 September.
