Horsecross Arts, Perth has announced the appointment of Rachel O’Riordan to the full time position of creative director for theatre. Currently artistic director of Ransom Productions in Belfast, O’Riordon has directed productions in theatres across the UK including Theatre Royal, Bath, Hampstead Theatre, London, Lyric Theatre Belfast, and Library Theatre Manchester. Her production Hurricane about snooker legend Alex Higgins was a Stewart Parker Award Winner,
Current creative director, Ian Grieve will direct Perth Theatre’s panto Aladdin and the company’s touring production of Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman in February. Funding cuts in recent years have lead to a decline in the number of in-house productions with a greater reliance on touring shows. The theatre is scheduled for a major redevelopment and fund-raising efforts have secured half of the £13 million target.
