this week’s major London theatre openings, in the West End and further
afield,
are the West End transfer of Royal Court family drama Jumpy at the Duke of York’s Theatre, Nickelodeon’s Dora the Explorer Live! at the Apollo Theatre, and fringe plays Mirandolina, The Communion of Lilies and more:

Tamsin Greig and Doon Mackichan reprise their roles in April De Angelis’ WOS award-nominated play at the Duke
of York’s Theatre, following its Royal Court premiere last year. Runs until 3 November 2012.


Nickelodeon’s Dora the Explorer Live!

Well-loved children’s tv series Dora the Explorer ventures onstage as Dora quests to find her lost teddy-bear. The show plays to daytime audiences only, who are invited to “think, sing and play along” at the Apollo Theatre until 16 September.


The Communion of Lilies

New play about Oscar Wilde’s “precarious existence” as a Parisian librettist after his release from prison and exile from English society following scandalous accusations of sexual impropriety. Written by Peter Dunn, directed by Sean Turner, runs at Barons Court Theatre until 9 September.

La Locandiera

18th-century Italian comedy by Carlo Goldini, about the coquettish mistress of an inn. Performed in the original Italian at The London Theatre, New Cross until 2 September.

Return to the Forbidden Planet

“Intergalactic musical”, based on Shakespeare’s The Tempest, which won an Olivier Award for Best New Musical in 1990. Featuring an array of ’50s and ’60s rock ‘n’ roll hits, the show plays at the Queen’s Theatre, Hornchuch until 22 September.
