The campaign aims to see every child go to the theatre by the time they leave school
A new campaign has been launched by the twin organisations Society of London Theatre and UK Theatre to help make sure every child goes to the theatre by the time they leave school.
The project, which is supported by subsidised and commercial companies across the nation, has declared its initial push is to make sure every political party has the initiative on their manifesto during the next general election (scheduled for the next 12 months).
Those tweeting in favour of the campaign (using #TheatreForEveryChild) include Les Misérables, Leeds Playhouse, Curve Leicester, Theatre Royal Plymouth, Empire Street Productions and Trafalgar Entertainment.
SOLT and UK Theatre commented: “Once we achieve political support for this campaign, we will work in partnership with schools and theatres to ensure that our aim is delivered, especially in schools and communities where theatre trips are currently not possible.”
They continued: “We need to invest in our future audiences and workforce by ensuring every child has the chance to go to the theatre by the time they leave secondary school.”
Readers and arts supporters are actively encouraged to share the campaign with local parliamentarians and candidates.
