The 60th anniversary gala will feature alumni from the company’s 60 year history
Alumni from the National Youth Theatre's 60-year history will take to the stage this month as part of an anniversary gala.
Doctor Who star Matt Smith will appear alongside Daisy Lewis, Hugh Bonneville and Jessica Hynes in the anniversary gala in the West End on 18 September.
Timothy Dalton and Gina McKee will also appear, with more names to be announced.
There will be 30 alumni involved as well as over 90 members. The event will look at the entire history of the theatre company and has the title The Story of our Youth. The performance will feature scenes from the NYT archives, choreographed numbers, new sketches from alumni and some more surprises.
Paul Roseby, the artistic director of the NYT, directs the show, which is part of the 60th anniversary programme, which also includes productions in the West End and on the fringe.
The National Youth Theatre was founded in 1956 and actors including Dame Helen Mirren, Daniel Craig, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Daniel Day Lewis all began their careers there.
The Story of Our Youth at 60 runs at the Shaftesbury Theatre on 18 September. The NYT's rep season runs from 27 September to 15 November.
