Academy Award-nominee Margot Robbie is best known for her roles in Hollywood blockbusters including Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad and the title role in the recent ice skating biopic I, Tonya, but her most recent project will see her on the other side of the camera as she attempts to tackle the Bard.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Robbie's production company Lucky Chap has teamed up with ABC and Hoodlum to produce a ten-part TV series retelling Shakespeare's work from the female perspective.

Produced and filmed in Australia, and helmed by a female creative team, each episode will transport one of Shakespeare's plays into the modern day, reflecting different cultures and areas in the country.

In a statement, Lucky Chap said: "[This is] an opportunity to showcase unique, distinctly female voices in writing, and to demonstrate the high quality of the Australian film and television industry.

"The project will share diverse points of view, from writers representing the different cultures and areas within Australia, which many would not readily associate with works of Shakespeare."

Filming will begin in late 2018. Further details have yet to be announced.
