Tonight we’re taking over 200 Whatsonstage.com theatregoers to see War Horse at the West End’s New London Theatre.The play, which hardly needs an introduction, is adapted from Michael Morpurgo’s novel and premiered at the NT Olivier in October
2007, returning for a second run the following year and transferring to
the New London in April 2009.
Now seen by over three million people worldwide, the play tells the
story of Albert and his beloved horse, who, at the outbreak of World War
One, is sold to the cavalry and shipped to France. It’s directed by Marianne Elliott and Tom Morris, designed by Rae
Smith, with puppet direction, design and fabrication by Basil Jones
and Adrian Kohler for Handspring Puppet Company, lighting by Paule
Constable, and movement and horse choreography by Toby Sedgwick.After the performance we’ll be joined by cast members including Sion Daniel Young (Albert) and Alex Avery (Captain Nicholls) to discuss the secrets of the show and its galloping success.
