Casting has been announced for Theatre503’s revival of Chewing Gum Dreams.

Written and originally performed by Michaela Coel, the character of Tracey Gordon will be played by Lauryn Ajufo.

The new production is the first revival of the show and will be directed by Theatre503’s artistic director, Anthony Simpson-Pike, who has launched a new strand committed to celebrating debut plays that reshaped contemporary British theatre.

Coel said: “Theatre503 was one of the early supporters of Chewing Gum Dreams and praised the show greatly during its first run in 2012. It is wonderful to see it have its first UK return there and I’m excited for its opening. Wishing their team the best of luck!”

Ajufo added: “I’m beyond excited to be part of the first UK revival of the renowned play, Chewing Gum Dreams; to step into the shoes of Michaela Coel is truly an honour. I’m looking forward to working with Anthony and the brilliant team at Theatre503 to bring this beautiful piece of theatre back to life. I can’t wait to watch the magic unfold!”

Completing the creative team are set and costume designer Yimei Zhao, lighting designer Christopher Nairne, sound designer Xana, casting director Heather Basten and movement director Theophilus O. Bailey.

Chewing Gum Dreams is a Theatre503 and tiata fahodzi co-production and will run from 10 September to the newly extended date of 10 October.
