Jon Snow, Sabrina Mahfouz, Simon Callow and more read Orwell's Down and Out in Paris and London

The live reading is directed by Theatre Uncut’s Hannah Price at Senate House

An immersive reading of Orwell's seminal book Down and Out in Paris and London will take place at Senate House today, 6 June .

The event is being staged in order to highlight the issues of homelessness in Paris and London and is directed by Theatre Uncut co-founder Hannah Price.

Readers include news broadcaster Jon Snow, Simon Callow and Sabrina Mahfouz and the event will begin at 2pm today. Stay tuned to WhatsOnStage's Facebook feed to see a glimpse of the readings live from two today.

Down and Out Live runs as part of the UCL's Festival of Culture in London and will run in Paris in late September. Each performance is accompanied by discussions and workshops on the challenges of homelessness and poverty.

Orwell's novel was based on the writer's own experiences of sleeping rough and working zero-hours contracts in hotel kitchens. Modern-day testimonies will also be read out during the event, which will finish at 6pm this evening.
