Daniel Evans’ production will be the first to transfer to the West End since he took over as artistic director of Chichester Festival Theatre
James Graham's new play Quiz, about the Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? coughing-major scandal, will transfer to the West End next year following a critically acclaimed run at Chichester Festival Theatre.
Graham's latest West End transfer, which will open at the Noël Coward Theatre in April, comes off the back of three other West End hits for Graham, with Labour of Love and Ink currently running at the Noël Coward and Duke of York's respectively, and This House having returned to the Garrick Theatre earlier this year.
Directed by Chichester Festival Theatre AD Daniel Evans, the play stars Gavin Spokes as Charles Ingram, also known as 'the coughing Major' when he hit headlines for cheating on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?. He is joined by Stephanie Street as wife Diana Ingram and Keir Charles as host Chris Tarrant.
The Ingrams were convicted of "procuring the execution of a valuable security by deception" in 2003, two years after Charles won £1,000,000 on the programme.
In her five-star review for WhatsOnStage, Sarah Crompton called Quiz a 'cracking play that sheds vivid light on the state of the nation while telling an engrossing story.'
Graham said: "Being given the chance to share Quiz with more people – and with the opportunity to develop and push our gameshow-meets-theatre concept even further – is beyond exciting for all of us."
Evans added: "James is an exceptional writer with a knack for examining our recent history through an alternative lens. We’re thrilled to be able to revisit the production for the West End, and share Chichester’s work with a wider audience."
Quiz will run at the Noël Coward Theatre from 10 April to 16 June, with previews from 31 March. It continues to run in Chichester until 9 December.
