Rambert has announced the early development of a new stage work inspired by the Channel 4 series It’s A Sin.

The production is being created in partnership with Factory International and will premiere at Aviva Studios in Manchester.

The dance work is based on the television drama created by Russell T Davies, who will serve as an executive producer alongside Pet Shop Boys and Glyn Fussell. Rambert’s artistic director Benoit Swan Pouffer will choreograph and direct the piece, working again with dramaturg Kaite O’Reilly on a new script.

The production is a co-production with Wales Millennium Centre, Capital Theatres in Edinburgh, Sadler’s Wells and Les Théâtres de la Ville in Luxembourg. Further details, including casting and performance dates, are to be announced.

Set between 1981 and 1991, the original series follows a group of young gay men and their friends as the HIV and AIDS crisis unfolds. The stage adaptation will reinterpret that story through contemporary dance, combining movement with archive and visual design elements.

Music for the production will be composed by Roman GianArthur, with input from Pet Shop Boys. Design will be led by Luke Halls Studio.

The announcement forms part of Rambert’s centenary year, which includes the FUTURE100 programme of events in London, Manchester and Edinburgh. The company will also tour This is Rambert across the UK and internationally in 2026.
