Blockbuster Broadway musical Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark is rumoured to be gearing up for a European Arena tour later this year.

According to the New York Post, the show, which has been running on Broadway for over a year despite encountering a fair number of teething problems, will avoid the “Victorian playhouses” of the West End in favour of “gigantic arenas”.

The Post‘s source added, “They’re going to have more flying and even more special effects.”

Spider-Man, which is adapted from the classic Marvel comic series, features music by U2’s Bono and The Edge and is directed by Philip William McKinley, who replaced original director Julie Taymor (The Lion King). Taymor is currently undertaking a high-profile lawsuit against the producers following her dismissal last year.
