‘King of Pop’ Michael Jackson has reportedly agreed to be involved in the creation of a new Broadway musical based on the horror-themed video to his 1984 song “Thriller”. This new venture, touted by producer James Nederlander as “the exclusive Michael Jackson authorised version” is not related to current West End incumbent Thriller Live, a concert show based on the singer’s greatest hits (See Photos, 22 Jan 2008).

Nederlander, whose company owns nine Broadway theatres, said in a statement that Jackson would “participate in every aspect of the creative process” – although remained somewhat vague regarding the plot details: “I love the idea of making Thriller a musical. Girl meets boy, they fall in love, boy has big secret, now what?”

But the veteran producer will have to tread carefully. In 2005 Jackson settled out of court with an Arab sheikh who claimed the singer had reneged on an entertainment contract, believed to include plans for a stage show.
