Writers Ian Hislop and Nick Newman have spoken about how much of their play The Wipers Times is taken directly from the newspaper produced in the trenches, on which the play is based.

The play is set in World War Two, and opened in Newbury to a five-star review from WhatsOnStage. It arrived in the West End at the Arts Theatre last night.

Hislop and Newman wrote the play in 2006 before adapting it for a BBC television series in 2013.
