Comedian and Outnumbered star Hugh Dennis (pictured) is in early talks to star in the West End premiere of Florian Zeller's French farce La Verite (The Truth).

The play centres on a man caught up in a four-way love affair, after discovering his mistress' husband is also sleeping with his wife.

Zeller, a rising star of French theatre, will have his play translated by Christopher Hampton, who has previously adapted works by Chekhov and Moliere and was the book writer of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Sunset Boulevard and Stephen Ward.

The Truth will be directed next year by Lindsay Posner, who is currently helming a revival of Speed-the-Plow starring Lindsay Lohan.

Posner told WhatsOnStage The Truth is "a very good play – a bit of a cross between Harold Pinter and Yasmina Reza", and that he is "hopeful" of a West End berth.

Dennis is known for his appearances on panel shows including Mock the Week, and stars as a put-upon father in BBC series Outnumbered.
