Howard Davies revives Stoppard's Hapgood at Hampstead

Director Howard Davies will revive Tom Stoppard's 1994 play Hapgood, set in the twilight of the Cold War, at Hampstead Theatre later this year.

The production runs from 9 December 2015 (previews from 4 December) to 16 January 2016.

Davies returns to Hampstead Theatre following his critically acclaimed productions of Howard's Brenton's 55 Days and Drawing the Line. His other recent credits include 3 Winters, Children of the Sun, The Last of the Haussmans and the Olivier Award-winning The White Guard, all for the National Theatre.

Stoppard recently premiered his latest play The Hard Problem at the National. His other plays include Rosencrantz And Guildenstern Are Dead, The Real Inspector Hound, The Real Thing, Arcadia and Rock 'n' Roll.

Hapgood, which originally starred Stoppard's muse Felicity Kendal in the title role, centres on spymaster Elizabeth Hapgood, who lays are trap when it becomes clear her network is leaking secrets.

Casting for the Hampstead production is still to be announced.
