The popularity of the cartoon mouse ballerina continues with English National Ballet announcing 20 performances of her latest show in Holland Park (22–30 August).
Angelina Ballerina’s Big Audition is performed by dancers of ENB and follows the aspiring dancer’s audition at the Camembert Academy of Performing Arts.
Aimed at small children, the show is choreographed by Antony Dowson with recorded music from Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker. The sets and costumes draw on the new Angelina Ballerina CGI animation and the original book illustrations.
The character was created by author Katharine Holabird and illustrator Helen Craig whose first book was published in 1982. The animated TV series was broadcast in 2002, and ENB first performed a stage show in 2007.
