Gemma Arterton recently played the lead role of Rita in a workshop of the musical version of the film Made in Dagenham, according to the Daily Mail. The film, which dramatises the Ford sewing machinists strike of 1968 that aimed for equal pay for women, was released in 2008 starring Sally Hawkins as Rita.
The workshop, which took place in central London, saw Arterton perform the first act of the musical adaptation alongside fellow cast members, with direction from Rupert Goold, whose company Headlong are behind the show.
Also amongst the creative team are book writer Richard Bean (One Man, Two Guvnors), composer David Arnold (musical director of Bond films and the Olympics closing ceremony) and lyricist Richard Thomas (Jerry Springer: the Opera).
