Southwark Playhouse will host the first London revival of Bat Boy: The Musical next year, running in The Large from 9 to 31 January 2015.

The production, which is on sale now, will be directed by Luke Fredericks with choreography by Joey McKneely and set and costume design by Stewart Charlesworth.

Bat Boy: The Musical premiered in 1997 and, inspired by a spoof article in tabloid The Weekly World News, it tells the story of a "strange bat-child" who is taken under a family's wing and taught the way of the world.

Matthew White (Ragtime, Chicago, The Phantom of the Opera) will play Dr Parker and Lauren Ward (Matilda, The Sound of Music, The Philadelphia Story) will play Meredith Parker.

Full casting is to be announced.
