The musical opens at Southwark Playhouse this week
As they prepare for press night, we popped into Southwark Playhouse to get a glimpse of The Life.
Michael Blakemore directs the musical about '80s New York and the pimps and prostitutes of Times Square before it was cleaned up.
The cast features Sharon D Clarke alongside Cornell S John, John Addison, Lawrence Carmichael, Jo Servi, David Albury, Jalisa Andrews, Matthew Caputo, Omari Douglas, Aisha Jawando, Thomas-Lee Kidd, Charlotte Reavey, Lucinda Shaw, Johnathan Tweedie, T’Shan Williams and Joanna Woodward.
First performed Off-Broadway in 1990, the musical has a book by David Newman, Ira Gasman and Cy Coleman, with music by Coleman and lyrics by Gasman.
The Life runs at Southwark Playhouse until 29 April.
