Laurie Sansom’s production opens at the Menier Chocolate Factory next week
Images have been released offering a first look at Kiss of the Spider Woman, which opens at the Menier Chocolate Factory next week.
Directed by Laurie Sansom, this major new adaptation of Manuel Puig's novel by José Rivera and Allan Baker, stars Declan Bennett and Samuel Barnett as two men imprisoned together in a Latin American jail. The play tells the tale of love, victimisation and the friendship that develops between the pair.
The three-hander – which also features Grace Cookey-Gam as Warden – has design by Jon Bausor, lighting by Paul Anderson, sound by Philip Pinsky and projection design by Andrzej Goulding.
Puig's novel was also adapted into a musical by John Kander and Fred Ebb, with a book by Terrence McNally, which premiered in the West End in 1992 and on Broadway in 1993, winning the Tony Award for Best Musical.
Kiss of the Spider Woman runs at the Menier Chocolate Factory from 21 March to 5 May, with previews from now.
