Jez Butterworth’s play has transferred to the Gielgud following a sold-out run at the Royal Court
Guests including David Tennant, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Sally Hawkins attended the West End premiere of The Ferryman last night, which has transferred to the Gielgud Theatre following a sell-out run at the Royal Court earlier this year.
Jez Butterworth's play is directed by Sam Mendes and sees Paddy Considine play Quinn – father of an Northern Irish family amidst the Troubles in the '80s – in his professional theatre debut alongside Laura Donnelly and Genevieve O'Reilly.
In her five-star review of the show for WhatsOnStage, Sarah Crompton said the play is "a triumphant, bold piece of theatre, an old-fashioned play full of life and heart and passion."
Other guests at opening night included Cush Jumbo, Mel Giedroyc, and original Cursed Child stars Paul Thornley and Anthony Boyle.
The Ferryman runs at the Gielgud Theatre until 7 October 2017.
