The award-winning piece comes to Stratford East

Rehearsal photos have been revealed for Choir Boy.
Nancy Medina’s celebrated Bristol Old Vic staging of Tarell Alvin McCraney’s play was first seen in 2023. Our critic wrote of the production: “It’s a bold and successful statement of intent, one that places underrepresented stories front and centre and imbues them with joy and love.”
The coming-of-age drama, interwoven with gospel music, follows a young Black queer man navigating identity, faith and friendship at a boys’ prep school.
Stratford East will host the show from 26 March to 25 April as part of its 2026 season – the first from artistic director Lisa Spirling.
Terique Jarrett will reprise his role as Pharus, having won the Black British Theatre Award for Best Male Lead Actor in a Play for his performance at Bristol Old Vic. Michael Ahomka-Lindsay also returns as David alongside Daon Broni as Headmaster Marrow, Khalid Daley as JR and Martin Turner as Mr Pendleton. Rabi Kondé joins the cast as Bobby with Freddie MacBruce as AJ.
