The Royal Shakespeare Company will present The Forsyte Saga Parts 1 and 2 at the Swan Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon this winter.

Adapted from John Galsworthy’s novel sequence by Shaun McKenna and Lin Coghlan, the two plays chart the fortunes of the Forsyte family across four decades, from 1886 to 1927. The story explores themes of love, inheritance and social change, beginning with the breakdown of Soames Forsyte’s marriage to Irene and the long-term consequences of her decision to leave him. It was first seen last autumn at the Park Theatre in London, where it received solid reviews.

Part 1: Irene runs from 28 November to 10 January, with Part 2: Fleur running from 1 December to 10 January. The production is directed by Josh Roche, who originally staged the adaptation at Park Theatre. Fiona Hampton, Joseph Millson and Flora Spencer-Longhurst reprise their roles as Irene, Soames and Fleur, with further cast including Emma Amos, Nigel Hastings, Michael Lumsden, Florence Roberts and Andy Rush.

The creative team features Anna Yates as set and costume designer, Alex Musgrave as lighting designer, Max Pappenheim as composer and sound designer, Patrice Bowler as movement director and additional casting by Matthew Dewsbury.

The Forsyte Saga is presented in association with Ashley Cook for Troupe. Tickets are available from £10 to £72.50, available to members next week and by the end of the month for the public.

The show was revealed in the company’s latest season announcement.
