Exclusive: The complete cast has been announced for the world premiere of The Daughter of Time.

This new play, an adaptation of Josephine Tey’s crime novel, will open at the Charing Cross Theatre and is directed by Jenny Eastop. Written by playwright M Kilburg Reedy, The Daughter of Time begins performances on Friday 18 July 2025 for a limited run until Saturday 13 September. A press night is scheduled for Friday 25 July.

The play is set in London in 1950. Inspector Alan Grant, confined to a hospital, investigates the historical case of Richard III and the alleged murder of the Princes in the Tower. This investigation becomes a primary focus for Grant as he interacts with two Shakespearean actors, two nurses, his deputy, and an American historical researcher.

The production’s cast includes Rob Pomfret (The Mousetrap, West End), who plays Inspector Alan Grant, with Rachel Pickup (The Gilded Age) as Marta Hallard, Noah Huntley (28 Days Later) as Nigel Templeton and Harrison Sharpe (Fathers and Sons) as Brent Carradine.

The cast also includes Hafsa Abbasi (The Daughters of Oedipus) as Nurse Ingham, and Janna Fox (African Gothic) as Nurse Darroll. Sanya Adegbola (Doctor Who, EastEnders) plays Sergeant Williams, Grant’s colleague from the Yard. Henry Douthwaite is an understudy for Grant and Templeton; Sophie Doyle is ensemble and understudy for the nurses; and Gregor Roach is ensemble and understudy for Carradine and Williams.

Reedy stated: “We are pleased to share the names of our cast for The Daughter of Time at Charing Cross Theatre. The casting process involved meeting each actor in their character, and we anticipate audiences will find the same satisfaction.”

The creative team includes set and costume design by Bob Sterrett, lighting design by Oliver McNally, composition by Haddon Kime, sound design by Andrew Johnson, and hair, make-up and wigs by Diana Estrada Hudson. Casting is by Neil Rutherford, and production management by James Anderton.
