Trevor Nunn will return to the Arts Theatre Cambridge to direct Noël Coward’s Easy Virtue, opening next month – with casting revealed.

The production marks the theatre’s first in-house show since reopening following the first phase of its redevelopment and will play exclusively in Cambridge.

Nunn’s return to the Arts Theatre Cambridge marks a significant moment in his career, having first directed on the same stage as a student. He studied at Downing College, Cambridge, between 1959 and 1962 and was involved with Cambridge Footlights and the Marlowe Society, both of which continue to be based at the venue. He has since returned to the theatre on several occasions, including to direct a student production of Cymbeline.

The cast is led by Michael Praed as Colonel Whittaker, Alice Orr-Ewing as Larita and Greta Scacchi as Mrs Whittaker. They are joined by Lisa Ambalavanar as Sarah Hurst, Zena Carswell as Nina Vansittart, Imogen Elliott as Marion Whittaker, Grace Hogg-Robinson as Hilda Whittaker, Hugh Osborne as Mr Harris, Joseph Potter as John Whittaker, Harmage Singh Kalirai as Furber, Jordan Kilshaw as Hugh Petworth, Fiona Tong as Mrs Hurst, Kishore Walker as Philip Bordon and Jamie Wilkes as Charles Burleigh.

Written in 1924, Easy Virtue centres on the Whittaker family, whose lives are disrupted when their son John returns from France with his new wife, Larita, an American divorcée.

The production is directed by Nunn, with Leah Harris as associate director, and is produced by Daniel Schumann and Rachel Tackley. The creative team includes set and costume designer Simon Higlett, lighting designer Johanna Town and sound designer Anna Wood, with casting by Ginny Schiller.

It will be running from 19 February to 7 March 2026, with a national press night on 24 February.
