Gavin Creel, who stars in recently opened hit show The Book of Mormon, has been taken ill with laryngitis.

Creel, who plays Elder Price opposite fellow American Jared Gertner as Elder Cunningham, missed last night’s performance (25 March) and will also be off tonight, a representative confirmed.

He is due to return tomorrow but is being “monitored closely” by doctors, the spokesperson said. His place has been taken by understudy Ashley Day.

The Book of Mormon, which received its West End premiere last week (21 March 2013), comes from South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, and Avenue Q
co-creator Robert Lopez.

The show, which won nine Tony Awards on Broadway including
Best Musical, follows a pair of Mormon boys sent on a mission to a
place that’s a long way from Salt Lake City.
