”One Love: The Bob Marley Musical” has a book by Kwame Kwei-Armah
One Love: The Bob Marley Musical will get its UK premiere at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre next March.
With a book by Kwame Kwei-Armah (who is currently directing One Night in Miami at the Donmar Warehouse), the musical focuses on a defining period of Marley's career in the 1970s.
During a time when his home country Jamaica was on the brink of a civil war, Marley returned from England, where he had spent two and a half years, to perform the famous One Love Peace Concert.
It's the first musical to feature Marley's music and will include some of Marley's hit songs such as "Redemption Song", "Exodus" and "Jamming".
Kwei-Armah said: "Few artists have had as big an effect on the world as Bob Marley. Even fewer as big an effect on me. I feel continually blessed and honoured to dance with Bob in this way."
The musical originally ran as Marley in Baltimore last year.
Tickets go on general sale on 7 October.
One Love: The Bob Marley Musical runs at the Birmingham Rep from 10 March 2017 to 8 April 2017.
