As part of their ongoing series of musical celebrations, BBC Four has unveiled an evening dedicated to Cats and Jesus Christ Superstar composer Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Over the last couple of months, the BBC has been setting aside Sunday evenings to celebrate musical theatre, with exclusive airings and special documentaries.

On Sunday 18 May, there will be a re-airing of Lloyd Webber and Don Black’s Tell Me On A Sunday, recorded with the legendary Marti Webb, accompanied by London Philharmonic Orchestra.

The one-woman musical charts the romantic misadventures of a young English girl newly arrived in New York. The score features “Unexpected Song”, “Take That Look Off Your Face” and the title song.

After that will be a re-airing of the BBC’s celebration of Lloyd Webber’s 75th anniversary, followed then by a conversation between the composer and Alan Yentob about the former’s autobiography. On the same night will be two episodes of musical theatre-heavy Showstoppers, as well as a repeat of the Cynthia Erivo prom, performed in 2022.

If you wanted to make a musical weekend of it, this year’s UK Eurovision entry is also a big one for theatre fans – here’s why.
