Dance venue Sadler’s Wells will celebrate its 15th anniversary next year with a programme featuring contributions from all its 15 associate artists.

The season will be marked by three events; A String of Rites, a series of shows celebrating the centenary of Stravinsky’s ballet The Rite of Spring; Sadler’s Sampled, a two week event with affordable ticket prices aimed at bringing world class dance to the widest possible audience; and the tenth anniversary of Breakin’ Convention, Sadler’s Wells annual festival of hip hop dance theatre.

The coming season will also feature work from Pina Bausch, Hofesh Shechter and National Ballet of Canada.

Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch will return to Sadler’s Wells following the sell-out success of its World Cities 2012 season. According to press, the visit will mark the “start of a new relationship with the company who plan to perform at Sadler’s Wells annually”.

From 14 to 25 February 2013 they will present two works from Bausch’s canon – Two Cigarettes in the Dark (1985) and the 2006 Vollmond (Full Moon), which was featured in Wim Wender’s Oscar nominated film Pina.

Others featured in the season include Olivier Award-winner Akram Khan (DESH), whose new full-length work iTMOi (in the mind of igor) will run from 29 May to 1 June 2013 as part of the String of Rites season.

And new Sadler’s associate Michael Keegan-Dolan will reimagine his Olivier-nominated version of The Rite of Spring and stage a new interpretation of Stravinsky’s Petrushka (11-13 April).

The Islington venue also announced today that it has sold over 650,000 tickets sold in the UK and on tour over the past 12 months. “Sadler’s Wells success is proof that the public appetite for dance is a strong as ever” said a press statement. “Dance is the fastest growing art form, with over 13% of the population now attending dance performances.”
