Choreographer Arlene Phillips, who was controversially dropped as a judge from TV’s Strictly Come Dancing last year in favour by the much younger Alesha Dixon, is reuniting with two of Strictly’s best-known dancers, Vincent Simone and Flavia Cacace, to produce their own live Argentine tango show.

Midnight Tango, which is created by and stars Simone and Cacace, launches a 13-week nationwide tour from Southampton’s Mayflower Theatre on 6 April 2011, before continuing to Oxford, Salford, Bradford, Sheffield, Woking, Nottingham, Birmingham, Plymouth, Sunderland, Milton Keynes, Cardiff and Edinburgh, where it concludes on 2 July.

Simon and Cacace, both Italian, are joined by a company of ten other tango dancers in the show, which is set in a late-night bar in downtown Buenos Aires and tells through dance a story of “danger and excitement, joy and jealousy, pain and passion”.

Commenting on the nationwide tour of Midnight Tango, Phillips said: “Watching Vincent and Flavia performing their Argentine tango, I feel, is as thrilling as dance gets. They have thrilled audiences on Strictly Come Dancing, and their new theatre show is a great opportunity for people up and down the country to see them live and feel the excitement.” Phillips presents the production with Adam Spiegel.
